Lent at Holy Trinity

  • Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 11 North Monroe Avenue Wenonah, NJ, 08090 United States (map)

As Epiphany wanes, we approach the season of Lent; a season of preparation, service, reflection, and repentance. Beginning on Ash Wednesday (March 2), we will observe this season with special programming, changes to the liturgy, and other offerings to help everyone at Holy Trinity observe this important season. Below you will find information about our Lenten programming in 2022

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner
Tuesday, March 1
Hollywood Diner at 6 PM

Join us for our Pancake Supper, OUT! We'll meet at Hollywood diner at 6 PM on Tuesday, March 1, and enjoy a time of fellowship (and feasting)! We're working with Hollywood to prepare a fixed menu (including pancakes obviously) and will have the pricing available soon. If you'd like to join us: contact Fr. Ben or put your name on the sign up sheet in the narthex. It's our last day to party & sin before Lent starts, so let's make it a good one!

Ash Wednesday
Wednesday, March 2
7 AM, 12 PM, 7 PM

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a season meant for reflection, repentance, and self-examination. Ash Wednesday is marked by the imposition of ashes as a reminder of our mortality— "Remember that thou art dust, and to dust thou shall return.”

We offer three opportunities to enter into a Holy Lent: 7 AM, Noon, & 7 PM. We will also be on Rowan's campus in the morning and afternoon, offering "Ashes-to-Go" to anyone interested. If you're on campus, stop by! We hope that you’ll come keep a Holy Lent with us!

"God Counted Him as Righteous"
Sin, Faith & Grace in the Story of Abraham

Lenten Bible Study: Zoom

Mondays in Lent (3.7 to 4.4)
8 PM via Zoom
Link

The Epistle to the Romans says that Abraham’s faith was “credited to him as righteousness”—credit which, based on his own growing pains and missteps, he certainly needed! Abraham’s journey with God toward the fulfillment of a promise which continues to unfold today can aid our understanding of God’s call on the Church and our desperate need for God to help us fulfill that same call. Throughout Lent, we will explore the themes of sin, limitation, growth, faith, and grace as we find them in portions of Abraham’s story in the Book of Genesis. We will seek to connect these themes to Lent in 2022, and our own need for God to help us follow His call for Holy Trinity. Join our ministry inter Micah as he walks through the hope of faith through the lends of Abraham--the patriarch of our faith. Mondays in Lent at 8 PM via Zoom. Join at bit.ly/lentotstudy22.

Childrens' Sunday School
Sundays in Lent, during the Sermon
Begins Sunday, March 6

Thanks to a generous grant from Trinity Wall Street, we have received a year of FREE, high-quality curriculum from the Christian organization Storymakers. For ages 2.5 to 13, Storymakers walks through various season, celebrations, and themes, making sure the Gospel and God's grace is always front and center in their curriculum! If you have a Sunday school-aged child, check it out starting March 6. After the work on the education wing is complete, we plan on moving Sunday School to concise with Coffee Hour! Check it out for yourself at their website!

The Rite of Reconciliation also known as Confession
Available upon request during Lent

From the BCP (1978) Catechism:

Q. What is Reconciliation of a Penitent?
A. Reconciliation of a Penitent, or Penance, is the rite in which those who repent of their sins may confess them to God in the presence of a priest, and receive the assurance of pardon and the grace of absolution.

Lent is a time of reflection, penance, and repentance. If you would like to receive the Rite of Reconciliation, also known as Confession, please contact Fr. Ben to make an appointment.
